The Gaping Maw of Sound found themselves within the smothering atmosphere of the Ruins in Caern in Highcroft after being teleported there by Talus. But before undertaking their search for the final part of the Sword of Tyr, LeoJim came forward to explain his actions in calling Thrax to Crooked Post.
After explaining himself, the group generally accepted his explanation, but only after he revealed his real name was Killian, a name he only gave them to prove they could trust him.
At that moment, the bag of holding LeoJim was carrying exploded, apparently no longer being maintained by Tricks who had given it to him. The group split the Wavebender Oars that were contained within to carry separately.
Using what the knew of Star and Scale's time in Caern, the Gaping Maw was able to find a safe way underground to avoid the psychic blasts from the tumult above the skies, and spent the day wandering deep caverns to the spot Samoht had told them about.
Along the way, Syd seemed not himself, obviously struggling with something internally.
At long last, they found the buried city beneath Caern. They felt the lingering presence of some entity within the buried city, which was at the bottom of a long cylindrical tunnel that had been carved hundreds of years before by some unknown entity.
The group found the arcane focus within the tunnel, buried with the ruined city, but the entity lingering in that place revealed itself to be a shadowy woman named Eshay, who seemed to want to talk.
She asked over and over where she could find Shar, who had told Eshay to await her return in that buried city, and so she had been there for longer than she could remember.
Kit offered to help Eshay leave, and so Eshay became shadow and entered into Kit, riding within him until they could find Shar.
With the last piece of the Sword of Tyr in hand, Kit revealed to the group that he carried Eshay, and the group was none to happy about it.
Kit cast fireball on himself, which angered Eshay and forced her out when she would not leave on her own.
Upon exiting Kit, Eshay was furious and attacked the group.
