The Students of Life and Death watched Igon's automatons walk into the canals of Trine, on their way to destroy the Church of the Sacred Flame.
The group decided to negotiate with Igon and spoke with him in his workshop about Goldcrest and his possible location so Gwenna could discover why their former friend had kidnapped her fathers.
Igon claimed he had built Goldcrest into the weapon he became after finding him wandering near Hemlock Bastille, and he had a way of finding him, but agreed to do so only if the group agreed to bring him back to the workshop so Igon could bring him back under control.
After agreeing, the Students discovered Goldcrest was hidden below the HQ of the Saffron Society, the Efferfescent Bathouse.
The group went to the Bathouse and met with Diamond Jim and Jihyo, the power couple in charge of the criminal organization. Jim brought them to the basement of the bathouse and was very friendly and amicable once learning the group was on a mission from Igon.
The Students found a hidden door that lead to Goldcrest, who greeted his old friends with regret and sadness at their previous parting.
Gwenna was reunited with her parents, and Goldcrest explained that he'd been hiding targets of the Church and Saffron Society so they couldnt be used as leverage and harmed in the conflict.
After learning Igon was expecting him, Goldcrest vowed to kill him, and apologized to Val for leaving the way he had once she'd fixed him. He'd resented her for it, but after seeking out his creator, came to understand that it was he who was in the wrong.
He also explained that if they killed Igon, all the automatons would fail, as he controlled them by putting a little bit of himself into them through Animancy.
The group took Goldcrest back to the workshop of Igon and on their way discovered his automatons were also converging on the bathouse. Igon was making a play for control of the entire organization.
Goldcrest burst in the doors and attacked Igon, and the group fought off several guard automatons.
After the battle, they discovered Goldcrest had succeeded in killing Igon, but had been fatally wounded in the process.
Goldcrest had reverted back to his former, simple and caring state, and asked Val that she not fix him, as that would make him a killer again, and he'd rather die as a friend.
The group agreed, and Goldcrest passed, having saved the city from open warfare.
The Students found Trine at peace, and over the next day, the influence of the Church of the Sacred Flame was already spreading, using the attack as an excuse to spread their doctrine.
The group made sure Gwenna's fathers were safe, and made preparations to leave Trine once and for all.
